Five best things about The Byron at Byron Resort
The Byron at Byron is AMAZING!!! It's eco-friendly, full of raw and exotic nature and is sexy! So here's why, break-it-down style...
The best parts (not in any order):
1. Eco-friendliness (the resort uses recycled paper for all internal use, environmentally friendly cleaning products, energy-efficient light bulbs, local, and organic if possible, produce for the restaurant to support the local community and to also limit carbon dioxide emissions from trucks, etc.; provides locally produced and natural soap, conditioning shampoo, moisturiser and spa wash in each room and the resort has spent $500,000 on a waste water treatment system that treats sewage water and reuses it to water the gardens and also pumps it free of charge to the golf course across the road; and I'm told the grass has never looked greener.).
2. The friendly and approachable staff (not snooty, regulars at top-end resorts).
3. The resort blends into the lush rainforest (you can't even see most of the apartments as they're enclaved by lush palm trees and it's a bit like playing 'I spy' trying to spot the actual resort from the street – even though it's only 15 metres away).
4. You're living in nature without harming it (and the resort is set out in such a way that I honestly don't think the birds and trees even know you're there).
5. There's something mystical about this rainforest – it feels like it's staring at you, watching over you and protecting you.
My recommendations!
* Follow the meandering, 2km-long wooden paths around the resort into the rainforest.
* At night, sit on one of the two private timber verandas in the dark and listen to the Africa-meets-didgeridoo-style rhythmic melody of crickets, cicadas and frogs.
* Eat outside of the restaurant, which is about 20 metres in front of the rainforest – magical! Feel the exotic, eco, sexy breeze sweep through your hair while you eat the most divine gourmet food. Think organic crusty ciabatta bread with garlic confit and extra virgin oil as an entrée; crispy skinned Atlantic salmon with mange-tout, almonds, prosciutto and burnt orange and basil dressing for mains; and the chocolate tasting plate for dessert (aka creamy white chocolate panacotta; devilishly blunt dark choc gelato and feuilletine – a mini French cake that's a mud, mousse, 'wet'-icing cake with a hint of raspberry) – purely divine.
* Do the complimentary yoga class at 8-9:30am every morning.
* Hire a bike from reception and ride to town (20 minutes) for a fun, true eco-style and refreshing experience.
I left feeling...
Rejuvenated, at peace, clear-headed, calm, de-stressed, content, at-one with nature... and like you want to go straight back! This truly is a stunning and amazing resort.
