We start each day with yoga to bring strength and flexibility and cultivate inner calm. The focus in the afternoons is restorative and relaxation, breathing exercises to bring clarity and stillness to the mind followed by Yoga Nidra, a guided meditation to deeply relax.

The essence of the retreat is defined through the luxury of it’s setting at the Byron at Byron Resort and Spa. Set within a stunning 45 acre rainforest, The Byron at Byron Resort and Spa provides an atmosphere of lush tranquility and the opportunity to completely unwind and rejuvenate.
Located just 5 minutes south of the town of Byron Bay you can relax by the 25m infinity pool or poolside sauna or experience the ultimate indulgence in the luxurious day spa. Or for the more active personalities there is tennis available and a fully equipped gymnasium.
The spacious luxury accommodation includes it’s own kitchen, separate lounge and dining area, plasma TV as well as two enclosed balconies. Luxurious bathrooms have deep free standing bathtubs and separate shower. Each suite is designed to fully immerse you in the sub tropical rainforest that surrounds the resort.

The retreat offers the consummate retreat experience, providing meditation, pranayama and Vinyasa yoga before breakfast, delicious, nutritious meals, plenty of free time to relax and renew in the day spa and numerous activities available at your discretion. Venture out for a scenic bike ride or stroll the boardwalk which stretches through the sub-tropical rainforest that surrounds the resort down to Tallow Beach. Along this walk there are many peaceful places to sit and meditate or simply take in the breath taking beauty you are surrounded by.
Simply relax and unwind around the 25m infinity pool and poolside sauna to cleanse and release toxins. Or take a nice easy stroll along the boardwalk which winds it’s way through the rainforest through to the lake at Bolly’s Point. There are stops along the way to take in the natural beauty or even meditate in nature!
The afternoons are for re balancing from the activities of the day. It is a time for inner reflection with a focus more on restorative and relaxation practice, often incorporating a Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation). Restorative yoga is very beneficial for healing the effects of chronic stress when practiced regularly. A 10 minute “svasana” (relaxation pose) is given after every class.
Retreat Teachers & Facilitators
Sue Hawkins is the founder and director Yoga Health Retreats and is a Senior Qualified Yoga Instructor who has been practicing for over 26 years and is registered with Yoga Alliance at the highest level E-RYT500. Sue has studied Iyengar Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra Yoga, Therapy and Partner Yoga. She furthered her studies traveling to India to deepen her knowledge of yoga asanas, pranayama, Ayurveda and yoga philosophy. Sue has instructed on teacher trainings, retreats internationally and continues to develop her knowledge and understanding of Yoga and Meditation. Sue completed a Pilates Mat Teacher Training to teach core strength, precision, control and flow of movement. Yoga and Pilates compliment each other enhancing alignment and core strength in a safe and practical way.
Kirsty Nugent, Yoga instructor has a breadth of experience having studied Ashtanga & IyengarYoga and practiced with master teachers around the world. She was a student of Yoga Synergy and Dharma Shala in Sydney for 10 years before moving to Byron Bay in 2008 to teach yoga full-time. She is RYT 500 qualified and loves to teach a variety of dynamic vinyasa, essential hatha, yin yoga and restorative class styles.
